गौमूत्रिका विधि (Gomutrika Method), गुणन (Multiplication) 

वर्तमान समय में पूरी दुनिया में गुणा करने की जो विधि प्रचलित है उस विधि को वस्तुतः गौमूत्रिका विधि के नाम से जाना जाता है। यह विधि अत्यंत प्राचीन तथा वैदिक है।

इस विधि को वैदिक विधि इसलिए कहा जा सकता है कि भारत के जीतने भी प्राचीन गणितज्ञ हुए हैं सभी ने इस विधि का उल्लेख किया है परन्तु किसी गणितज्ञ ने इस विधि को अपनी खोज नहीं बताया है सभी गणितज्ञों ने इसे प्राचीन परंपरा से प्राप्त होने की पुष्टि की है। यूं तो इस विधि के खोज का श्रेय महान भारतीय गणितज्ञ ब्रह्मगुप्त (598 ई. - 668 ई.) को दिया जाता है परन्तु यह निश्चित तौर पर नहीं कहा जा सकता है कि उनसे पहले यह विधि नहीं रही होगी, संभवतः इस विधि को किसी और ही नाम से जाना जाता हो। इस विधि में गुणक (multiplier) तथा गुण्य (multiplicant) का गुणनफल (product) निम्नलिखित तरीके से प्राप्त करते हैं

विधि :-

सर्वप्रथम 1347 को 8 से गुणा कर गुणनफल 10776 प्राप्त होता है।

पुनः 1347 को 6 से गुणा कर गुणनफल 8082 प्राप्त होता है।

तत्पश्चात 1347 को 3 से गुणा करने पर गुणनफल 4041 प्रात होता है।

उपरोक्त प्रक्रिया से प्राप्त गुणनफल को निम्नानुसार लिख कर इनका योगफल प्राप्त करें जो दिये गये संख्याओं 1347 तथा 368 का गुणनफल होगा।

गौमूत्रिका विधि थोड़ा कठिन तथा अधिक समय लेता है परन्तु इसकी व्यापकता के कारण पूरी दुनिया में अत्यधिक प्रचलित है।
