Subtraction from Base 10 or 100 or 1000
निखिलं नवतश्चरमं दशत:
Nikhilaṃ navataścaramaṃ daśataḥ -
All from 9, and the last from 10.
Sutra: Nikhilam Navatashcharama Dashat: This is a popular formula of Vedic maths, according to this formula (all from 9, and last from 10) is used to subtract a number from 10ⁿ and multiply two numbers close to 10ⁿ.
Practitioners of Vedic mathematics find it very effective for numbers close to 10ⁿ, even more effective than the famous sutra: Urdhva Tiryagbhyan.

Subtraction using appropriate base
1. One digit number (base 10)
10 – 1 = 9
10 – 2 = 8
10 – 3 = 7
10 – 4 = 6
10 – 5 = 5
10 – 6 = 4
10 – 7 = 3
10 – 8 = 2
10 – 9 = 1
2. Two digit numbers (base 100)
Ex. (1) 100 – 73
Take 73
The last digit 3 is subtracted from 10 is 10 – 3 = 7
And, the other digits 7 is subtracted from 9 is:
9 – 7 = 2
Hence, 27
The last digit 3 is subtracted from 10 is 10 – 3 = 7
And, the other digits 7 is subtracted from 9 is:
9 – 7 = 2
Hence, 27

= (9–7)/(10–3)
= 2/7
= 27
